Being in business can often be tough and so right at the start of our career we decided that we would always celebrate our victories whether large or small. Well we were celebrating yesterday as we received notice that Liz has been shortlisted in the Professional Photographer Magazine Picture of the Year Competition. Her wedding image was taken at the wedding of Lisa and Mark last year and has always been one of our favourites. It means the image is now in with a chance of taking the overall prize, a major achievement were it to come to pass. The shortlisting is big enough in it's own right however given the international reach of the competition and the high standard of image submitted. Well done Liz but I put it down to the expert holding of the light!
Superb day out yesterday at the NEC, had some very productive meetings and some fantastically exciting plans in the offing. Will keep everyone posted as soon as we have more details confirmed.
I've had the pleasure of working with Natalie a couple of times but only when she has modelled for courses I've been running. On Saturday I was able to do a shoot with her, free of distractions and concentrate solely on getting some fab shots. It's not difficult as she is fab to work with and very professional and we had a great time. Here are some of my favourites, full gallery available here.
It was lovely to meet lots of wonderful people at the Cave Castle wedding fair on Sunday. To those who booked us we thank you and look forward to working with you as we build towards your wedding day. To those we talked to and are still considering our services, enjoy looking through the blog at the range of work we do.
Away to the NEC today for the major trade fair for the photographic industry. Always a good time to see what's happening, what's new and meet up with friends old and new from around the world.
Next post will be on Friday and you don't want to miss it as it will contain some very special pictures. I can honestly say they will be like nothing I've ever taken before and I am so excited about Thursdays shoot. Can't say any more for now but I'll be back here on Friday providing I don't get eaten!!
I love running courses. I love sharing my passion for photography with other creative people and seeing those lightbulb moments when they realise there is another way to explore their art. What's even better is that photography does attract some wonderful people who are an absolute joy to spend time with.
Such was the case this week when I spent time in Staveley with Alison and the rest of the team at Annabel Williams Studio along with a gorgeous group of photographers who suffered cold, snow, wind and all over lack of light but still produced some beautiful images. They will never have to shoot in worse conditions than we experienced so it was a huge learning experience all round.
More courses currently being planned both at Staveley and back here in Beverley so if you are wanting to progress your skills in any area of digital imaging, amateur or professional, then give us a call and we'll find the right course for you.
Thanks too to our marvellous models. Dean and Jo (along with Coco) were fab in the morning but the real medal goes to Becky and Rich for walking through the snow without complaining of hypothermia and still looking gorgeous in their wedding outfits.
Sunday was a big day out for us as we went over to York for a wedding fashion shoot at the Royal York Hotel. It was to launch the 2009 Wedding Collection of Andrea Bambridge and we had a blast. Five models, expert hair and makeup courtesy of Annabel Bailey and Emily and lots of wonderful dresses. Even better we were joined at one stage by North Yorkshires finest when the fire alarm sounded and we had to evacuate the building! It's certainly never boring on one of our shoots.
It was a long, long day but thanks to the hard work of everyone involved we got some fantastic images. A special thank you to Deborah and all the team at the Royal York who kept us fed and watered and provided us with fantastic facilities. If you're in York on the 22nd go in and say hello as they will be showcasing the hotels wedding and special event services. Well worth the effort if you're planning a celebration.
Away tomorrow to Staveley to work with the wonderful team at the Annabel Williams Studio for a couple of days. Looking forward to meeting all the photographers who will be on the course and shooting some great images. Looking forward too to a lovely meal and pint at one of my most favourite pubs in the world, the Eagle and Child. See you tomorrow Richard and Denise!
Congratulations to Katy and Jonny after their wedding on Saturday. They're a gorgeous couple and we had so much fun throughout the day. It was definitely a winter wedding, the temperature was near zero, wind blowing wild and snow threatening all day. Despite all this we still managed to get some outdoor shots, mainly due to Katy's determination to ignore the onset of hypothermia in the interests of art! The reception was at the Coniston Hotel, a new venue for us but one we hope to visit again soon. Vicky and her team made everything run smoothly and on time which always makes my job that bit easier.
So a lovely day with lovely people in a lovely setting. Good start to 2009 I reckon.
Full week this week and look out for some shots at the weekend that will knock your socks off as we visit York for a wedding fashion shoot at the Royal York Hotel.
Then it's off to Staveley next week to run a course with the team at the Annabel Williams Studio. Looking forward to meeting everyone there and sharing some tips and techniques on wedding photography.
Hope the snow wasn't too bad for you, all gone here now.
